Take an accomplished chef. When you taste a dish they’ve created, you are ingesting more than the material food and having a sensory experience.

First of all, the food comes from nature and as such is in its original form in spiritual/-material/ balance. Second, you are consuming the love, care, creativity, innovation, dedication and many years of hard work of the chef.

So you are also consuming the chef’s spirit in the form of a material expression and are allowing this chef to fulfill his or her life calling. And by fulfilling his or her calling, the chef is also allowing, for example, farmers to fulfill their calling to produce wholesome produce.

So being a foodie is way beyond mere material indulgence.

Next time you’re having an orgasmic culinary experience, can you imaging actually tasting the chef’s life calling to awaken your spirit by delighting your palette?
