Let’s talk about letting go of things you don’t need in your life anymore in order to make room for new things to enter your life.
Open yourself to new experiences, to new adventures, to things you love doing. But for that you need to first let go of what you have because if you’re cluttered in your home, in your schedule, in your life, then there’s no room for anything new to enter. And if it does enter, then it just becomes overwhelming. And it’s not an enjoyable experience because it’s sitting on on clutter.
So let’s start with your home. So I have spent the holidays decluttering my house and I am using the Marie Kondo method, which means going by categories of items rather than areas in your house.
So first I did my clothes, then I did books. I’m almost done with papers and paperwork and administration. And so I can already begin to see in my house areas that there’s so much more spaciousness that I can already begin to organize areas in a new way because I’ve decluttered already so much and I’m still going through it. It’s going to take a few more weeks, but I’m loving it.
And so how can you do this?
First of all, ask yourself what qualities do I want to bring into my home? So I know that I want to bring spaciousness and I want to bring beauty. I know that when my life. , my external world, my home is cluttered, I can’t think straight. So I need to declutter in order to create spaciousness. And I like freedom and spaciousness and expansiveness. So I need to declutter in order to give myself this quality. And it’s also really important for me to create beauty around me.
So for example, I was already able to put in a corner at plant. I moved a plant from one area in my house to another and put it in a beautiful basket. And now when I sit in my sofa, I look at that basket with a plant and it just, it just creates joy for me each time I look at it because beauty is so important for me.
So decide what the qualities that you want to bring into your home are to begin with. Then use a principle that’s going to work for you to declutter. So for me, the Marie Kondo method really works. I downloaded her audio book and I listen each time to a new chapter and section, and I don’t listen further until I’m done with that category of items in my home. So I’m halfway through the book and I will not advance until I’m done with a category that I’m at.
And then decide what actions you’re going to take in order to declutter. Okay? The time you’re going to allot to it, how often you’re going to do it, you know if it’s going to be an hour a day or are you going to take half a day and doing entire category, you decide how to do that. But pick an action or two or three that you’re going to do and go do them.
And then sit back. Once you’ve done the work and appreciate what you’ve done, just enjoy what you’ve done. You set a goal, you decided what qualities you want to bring into your life in this area. So we’re talking about the home now, what qualities you want to experience in your home, what principle or method you’re going to work with in order to let go of things, create action items, and then after you’re done, sit down, appreciate what you’ve done, enjoy it, and then move on to the next thing.
Blessings.
