Expansive with Anna Gatmon here, and another reading from Eileen Caddy’s daily meditations, Opening Doors Within. The focus today is on love. And how simple acts of love that you do throughout your day are also a way to become an activist, to be an activist, to be a change maker. Because many times we think of change-makers or social entrepreneurs or activists as doing big things out in the streets, rallying, or big, big, big actions. And so we feel like, well, if I’m not doing it, then I am not an activist. And I maybe am not doing something that’s meaningful that’s contributing to the good in the world to changing the world. And it’s not this or that. We live in such a dualistic planet that either I’m an activist and I’m doing something out in the world, or I’m not. There’s room for this, there’s a time for this. There’s a need for this and there’s room in time and a need for your daily actions as well. And this is what it’s about. And so I’m going to read the reading, which this time is from August 26. And then I’ll have some tips for you, how you can work with this and share your love as an act of activism in the world throughout your day. So here we go.
“You have a tremendous work to do. It is the silent work of creating more love in the world. It is like the yeast in a lump of dough, which does its work very quietly and without any fuss. And yet without it, the bread would be a solid lump. Therefore, love those souls you are with. Love what you are doing, love your environment, and love those souls who are your seeming enemies. There is far more grace in loving the seemingly unlovable than in simply loving those souls who love you. Feel the need for love in every soul and allow yourself to become a channel for love to flow through to meet that need as each individual learns to love for Love’s sake. So will the heaviness in the world be lightened for love brings an element of lightness where there was heaviness and darkness? Love starts in each individual. So look within your own heart, and draw it forth, give it freely and with real joy.”
And so you’ll see the ultimate goal is to lighten the heaviness, the suffering, the pain, the trauma that is in the world. There is so much of it these days, and it’s just accumulating. It’s coming out into the surface, into the media, into our awareness our conscious awareness. And so simple acts of love have a place in being a change-maker in social activism, in ecological activism, opening your heart and loving yourself, loving someone you already care for even more. And then loving someone that you dislike that you know, personally, or that you don’t know from another people, another country, another belief system than yours, another political view, those are all spiritual acts. You see your cause, whatever you are fighting for, or are longing to change in the world, that’s your spiritual practice. And so whether you see yourself as a change-maker, officially a social entrepreneur or an activist, you can be an activist through simple acts of love. And again, it’s not this or that there’s room and time and space for both of them. But right now, and at every moment throughout your day, acts of love are going to alleviate some of the heaviness in the world and some of the trauma and some of the stress and some of the concern and the worry and the fear. And so get to work. It will uplift you. It will uplift your surrounding and it will alleviate some of the heaviness and the darkness in our world on planet earth.
So three simple things that you can do, first of all, how can you love something in yourself a part in yourself that you maybe don’t like as much, is there a part in you that you can love more or a part that you love and just celebrate it? So you can pick something that you love and just be even more loving towards it and appreciate that activity that you can do, or a part of you, a value have, something in your personality, in your character, just something you love in yourself, just to acknowledge it. And then if you want to go towards something that you don’t love as much, see how might you love that?
Then go to someone that’s near you, someone in your immediate environment that you already care for. Can you tell them what you love about them? Can you express or show more deeply your appreciation, your gratitude, your love for them, your care for them, your inspiration by them.
After you’ve done that, I guarantee you will feel expansive. You will feel joy. Your heart will open. You will feel high on life. And then as a third step, when you’re already in this place of universal love to yourself and loved ones, pick something that’s against what you believe in, or something or someone you don’t understand. They’re different than you, different political view, different race, different country, different species, whatever it is, something that is other to you is different to you. And try to even physically move into their shoes. You can move in the room and move into their shoes and see, well, could I understand them better? Could I love them better? If I stood in their shoes, what is their experience like? Practice it and you will be a force for love and for good and such an activist change-maker in our world, in your world, in your life. And you will be connecting to your own source. So you will be receiving a flow of love. That’s coming through you. That’s going to uplift you first of all, and then everyone around you.
So try this. I send you blessings of love, of courage to love, and to see where you are not loving yourself or somebody else, wherever you’re watching this, you can leave a comment and I will respond,
Blessings.
