Expansive with Anna Gatmon here and another reading from Eileen Caddy’s book, Opening Doors Within, which I read every day. Eileen Caddy was one of the co-founders of the Findhorn spiritual community, ecovillage, and education center in Northern Scotland, where I had the beginnings of my spiritual awakenings. And so today I want to focus on faith.
The reading today from September 23rd is about how to build your faith. And in order to lead a spiritual life in order to make change in the world, in order to achieve what you want in order to create the life you want to live for yourself, for your family, for your group, your community, for the world, for nature, for, for humanity, you’ve got to have faith. As the song goes, you gotta have faith. And so I want to give you an idea of one thing that if you do it, it’ll help you start building your faith stronger and stronger.
So let me first read to you the reading of today, from Eileen Caddy, the message. And then I’ll give you the secret in a sense to how you can build your faith with, you have the capacity already inside you. So I’m just going to direct you in the right direction. So you can start building your faith wherever you’re at, at the beginning, or you have a lot of faith and you want to grow your faith, or you’re starting, you have no faith in the world. And the world is crumbling these days in all areas of life. And it’s affecting each one of us in a different way, but it’s affecting all of us. And so I’ll give you the first step to building your faith. So here is Eileen Caddy’s daily meditation from September 23rd.
“You cannot play a game of tennis just by standing there with a racket and ball in your hand. You have to raise the racket and hit the ball over the net. You have to take action. So with faith, you have to do something to prove to yourself that it does work when you live by it, the more you try it and realize that it works, the more confident you become until you are willing to take any step in faith without hesitation because you know, we are taking it together, and anything is possible when you are willing to do so. You have to have faith in your ability to swim before you jump into deep water with complete confidence otherwise, you will drown. You have to have faith in the ability to live by faith before you can do it. Faith begets faith. How can you tell whether you can trust me unless you try it and see if it is so.”
So, Eileen caddy would hear an actual voice, which not many people do, which she called the voice of God within her, which she contacted through her own divinity. And so how do you build faith? And the answer is in the meditation is to take action. So here is how you can take action because it’s hard to take action if you’re scared if you don’t know what the result is, right? There’s a saying that faith begins as an experiment and ends up as an experience. So with faith, you have to take a leap of faith as it says and leap before you know what the result is. So you have to take action before you get the results. And we so often want the results first, give me the proof first, give me the proof that you exist and that miracles happen, and then I’ll do anything for you. No, it works the other way around. You have to connect to your faith because that’s when you start to hear the voice of your own divinity, your own higher inner wisdom, and you will know how to advance in your life in order to alleviate your own suffering and your own pain. And by doing so lightening the suffering in the world.
So how do you take action when you’re scared? Well, think of a time when you wanted something so badly, you really long for it, and you were willing to just do it because the desire for it was so great that you just went for it. Maybe you were scared to jump into the water, but you were told it’s safe and it’s okay. And somebody was going to catch you, but you wanted the experience so much more than the fear that you jumped in and then you couldn’t stop. I mean, we were all kids jumping in the pool in and out, in and out or into the waves in the ocean, right? Or something else, maybe, you know, a paper in school or a speaking event as an adult, or calling someone, a friend or someone that you were in love with and taking a risk. It’s like, there’s a risk involved, but the desire is so strong that you let the desire lead. And when you let the desire lead with that strong, passionate desire comes the courage to take the leap of faith.
So just think of times in your life, when your passionate desire, your passion has been strong, a desire for something has been so strong that you were in a sense expansive, cause you were connected to the possibility, what’s possible for you. You were connected to the highest, most noble possibility for yourself. And when you were connected to that, it wasn’t as scary to take the leap of faith.
So make a list of one time, three times, ten times when you were passionate enough and you desired something and you were so excited about it, that it conquered your fear and allowed you to take the leap of faith. And as you remember in, Raiders of the Lost Ark, I think it was the last one but I don’t know exactly, when Harrison Ford is caught between the abyss at the end of a rock and people chasing him. And clearly, he’s going to fall into the abyss if he takes another step, but he’s going to get killed from the group that’s chasing him. And he decides to jump into the abyss and in the jumping into the abyss rocks show up for each step and he’s able to cross the abyss. So rather than having this faith that you have to work hard for and how will you do it and how will you conquer your fear just look for traces of delight, of excitement, of passion, where you desired something so much that it weighed and made the fear, okay, it was there, but it also motivated you to take the leap of faith. And that’s a more enjoyable way to start to build your faith.
And then once you’ve done one action and you go, oh my God, what a synchronistic event? How is it possible? Just this happened? And this happened just as I was taking the action because the world will start organizing itself for you. The universe, once you have a focused intention and things will start happening in that direction. And then there’s a compound effect of you have a thought that takes you one direction and it compounds and builds. And then it’s much easier because you already have the faith that the first thing happened in the second and the third. And then you can take bigger and bigger steps, but the way, the easy pleasurable way in is through your passion, your desire, your delight. So just recall a time where you had it, where you had that, where you had that, and then connect to that feeling again, and then try to find that feeling for what you want to do now. What, what is delightful about it? What’s awaiting you on the other side of the bridge once you cross and focus on that. And as long as you focus on that, you’ll be able to cross the narrow bridge of fear because you will be focused on what’s awaiting you on the other side, the pleasure, the desire, the delight.
So I hope this is helpful for you. I send you blessings of faith, of delight, of pleasure, and of desire wherever you’re watching this. Leave me a comment.
Blessings.
